Tales From The Trails:

Summer Trails Crew Support Forest Park's Trails

Our summer trails staff, Jordan and Gavin, have accomplished a lot in Forest Park so far. They've brushed nearly 10 miles of trail together in addition to leading volunteer work parties that have brushed a cumulative 25 miles. They've also widened and re-benched a half-mile of trail; built nearly 80 square feet of rock retaining walls; and hauled 5 tons of rocks to project sites.

Forest Park Conservancy's Trails Manager Ingry asked them what their favorite part of the summer has been so far:

Jordan says, "Spending time in a natural outdoor setting and doing physical labor are some of my favorite things. I like leading work parties, talking to folks and engaging the community. "

Gavin agrees: "I really like working with the volunteers, and there are so many regular volunteers coming out every week. It seems like it's a really great way for people to build community and find like-minded people to spend time with. Since volunteer work parties are how the majority of the work gets done, work parties are one of the most important components of our work." Gavin also likes puzzles, and he's an excellent dry stone mason (aka rock walls!).
