Metro Grant for Dogs and Trails

Forest Park ConservancyUncategorized

This year the Forest Park Conservancy (FPC) is a proud recipient of the Metro Central Enhancement grant! As part of this grant, FPC aims to improve a popular section of Wildwood Trail and conduct community outreach to address the problem of off-leash dogs in Forest Park.

Off-leash dogs in Forest Park can harm wildlife and pollute streams as well as create some unpleasant encounters with other dogs and/or people.

That’s why FPC and volunteers will be tabling at various trailheads to promote the Doggie Challenge, a pledge we ask dog owners to take in order to keep their dogs on-leash and on-trail while exploring Forest Park. The first 100 dogs to accept this great responsibility will be rewarded with an “I love Forest Park” dog leash as well as the satisfaction of protecting Forest Park.

For the trail project this grant will support rebuilding sections of Wildwood Trail, from approximately mile point 7.75 to 8.5. Starting this Earth Day and continuing throughout the summer, a series of volunteer projects will work toward mitigating trail erosion and safety hazards in this area.

Both the trail and Doggie Challenge projects will improve park habitat and user experience. Thank you Metro for your support!
