Title: Fieldwork and Intern Coordinator

Work Schedule: 5 days, 40 hours/week (includes some weekends and evenings)

Classification: Permanent, Non-exempt

Work Location: Workday starts at 2960 NW Upshur St, Portland, OR, 97210

Summary of Position:

Forest Park Conservancy (FPC) is seeking talented individual who is self-motivated with a desire to be a leader and a mentor. Candidates must be capable of working efficiently and independently, and communicate well with diverse community groups from all backgrounds and skill levels, including communities of color from the Portland-Metro area.

The Fieldwork and Intern Coordinator will provide coordination for FPC’s Green Job Training and Internship Program; and will work closely with FPC’s Trails Manager and the Program Manager, providing in-the-field support for their programs, and leading volunteer activities in Forest Park. 

Roles:

Green Jobs Training and Internship Program Coordination (20%)

o Act as point of contact for interns and FPC partners enrolled in FPC’s Green Jobs Training and Internship Program.

o Coordinate interns’ work schedule, training needs and placement with partners.

Trails Maintenance and Repair (30%)

o Support Trails Manager with on-the-ground basic trail maintenance and construction, and tool maintenance and caring.

o Help coordinate and manage seasonal trail maintenance crew.

o Record trail project data on a daily basis and report weekly to Trails Manager.

Restoration /Invasive Species Control /Canopy Weeds (30%)

o Support Program Manager with on-the-ground work associated with invasive species control, restoration and monitoring activities.

o Help coordinate and manage seasonal restoration crew, including overseeing the completion of daily project reports.

o Support routine maintenance (invasive species removal and revegetation) of private properties currently undergoing active restoration through Forest Park Conservancy’s Canopy Weed Program.

Volunteer Management (20%)

o Train and supervise volunteers for trail and restoration work, leave no trace practices, responsible recreation; and speak at events regarding the work of the Forest Park Conservancy. Work parties are ranging in size from 15-40 volunteers.

Required Qualifications:

  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • At least 1 year of experience working on trails maintenance or restoration work.

Ability to lift 50 lbs. and traverse uneven terrain for 7 continuous hours, 3-4 days per week often while in challenging weather conditions.

Experience working with youth from communities of color.

Valid, insurable driver’s license, 2-year driving experience and no major driving violations. Upon hiring, candidate will need to submit driving history record from the local DMV. 

Preferred Qualifications: 

Experience working with volunteers and public experience.

Proficient with Microsoft Office suite, Google Drive, Gmail, and other software.

First Aid/CPR/AED or Wilderness First Aid or WFR.

Chainsaw operation experience and certification.

Bilingual speakers are encouraged to include that information in their application.

Starting Salary: $18.00/hour
