We’ve finished brushing Forest Park!Have you noticed a clear and visible path on your morning run? Been dodging fewer vine maples and thimbleberries lately while you walk the dog? Hundreds of volunteers, many corporate sponsors, and our lovely summer staff are to thank for their hard work swinging weed whips and swiping rakes all over Forest Park’s 47 miles of soft-surface trails since May. A mix of regular volunteers and new faces finished out our brushing season strong at our morning work party on August 29th on lower Ridge Trail. FPC cuts back vegetation on 47 miles of soft-surface trails each summer (some of them twice!), ensuring that your Forest Park experience is safe, enjoyable, and less likely to cause harmful erosion on our trails—like when you step on the outside edge of the trail to avoid getting poked by an arching blackberry vine. “Operation: Brushing 2019” was a success, but we’re already thinking about how we can be more efficient next summer.
