Trail Management
Friends of Forest Park's Trail Management Program, working to repair and improve Forest Park's extensive trail system.
Friends of Forest Park funds much of the work on the park's trails.
Trails Program: Each summer, Friends of Forest Park contracts with AmeriCorps to hire an EnviroCorps team for 45 days of trail work. FFP also hires a Trail Program Manager to manage the EnviroCorps teams and work with volunteer teams and corporate sponsors. Read more on the 2007 plans for FFP's Trails Program.
New Trail Construction: In 2002 Friends of Forest Park received a $45,000 grant to construct a new “connector” trail between the St. Johns Bridge and the Wildwood Trail. The trail was formally opened in 2004. In 2000, the Wildwood Trail extension to Newberry Road was built with thanks to Friends of Forest Park volunteers and grant dollars.
In 2006, Friends of Forest Park managed efforts to build two new trails. Thanks to a grant from the 405 Fund, Firelane 5 has been extended beyond the Wildwood Trail and now connects with Leif Erikson. This new section of trail is open to mountain bikes, providing an excellent loop with Saltzman Road. Thanks to PUMP (Portland United Mountain Pedalers), who brought out 34 volunteers on two separate days to help make this project happen.

The other new project is the Cannon Trail, a brand new trail connecting the Wildwood Trail to Leif Erikson Drive just south of Germantown Road. This trail was built thanks to a grant from the Oregon Parks Foundation.
