Getting to Forest Park on Tri-Met
To start, a few helpful tips: It would be extremely helpful to have a good map (or map set) of Forest Park. It would also be helpful to have a good working knowledge of the Tri-Met system and schedules for any train/bus routes you may want to take. Maps of Forest Park are available at several retail locations: REI, the Hoyt Arboretum, the POVA information center in Pioneer Square and others.
MAX Blue Line and Red Line provide service to Washington Park, where the Oregon Zoo, World Forestry Center, the Vietnam Memorial and the Children’s Museum are located. The trailhead for the Wildwood Trail is located just north of the World Forestry Center.
Tri-Met Bus Line number 20 (Burnside/Stark) serves the area on west Burnside where the Wildwood Trail crosses from Washington Park into Forest Park. This is also near the Pittock Mansion where the Wildwood Trail crosses the south end of the Pittock Mansion Parking lot. This location provides access to the Wildwood Trail and secondary access to the Upper Macleay Trail, Macleay Trail, Cumberland Trail and Tunnel Trail.
Tri-Met Bus Line number 15 (NW 23rd/Gordon and Thurman) serves Thurman Street, where the following trails can be directly accessed: Holman Lane, Aspen Trail and Leif Erickson Trail. Secondary Access is also provided to the Wildwood Trail, Wild Cherry Trail and Dogwood Trail.
Tri-Met Bus Line number 17 (NW 21st Avenue/St. Helens Road) serves the remainder of Forest Park, beginning at Yeon and St. Helens Road. This line DOES NOT run on Sundays. Some access points along St. Helens Road are: Yeon Avenue, Saltzman Road, Ridge Trail, Springville Road, Germantown Road, Marina Way and various points where fire lanes descend to St. Helens Road from Forest Park.
In the list of possible access points you will find “Stop ID” numbers for Tri-Met. By calling Tri-Met’s “Transit Tracker” telephone number (503.238-RIDE) you will be able to enter the stop ID number to discover when the next vehicle will be at the stop. Therefore, a cell phone would be a very useful tool when accessing Forest Park using Tri-Met.
